Have you been affected by a crime or tragedy?
No one ever expects something like this to happen
to them.
If you have been a victim of a crime, you may experience
physical and emotional effects that are not only painful
but may also be confusing and frightening.

may be confused, overwhelmed, and distrustful of others.
They may experience various physical, emotional, behavioural
and cognitive difficulties including feelings of:

We, the Victim Assistance Society can help by providing
support, information, and referral services to help
cope with these feelings. Some of the types of crimes
and tragedies we provide support for include but are
not limited to domestic assault, sexual assault, sudden
death, motor vehicle accidents, assaults, theft, break
and enters, fires and more. Our services are free
and confidential.
Support
Our role is to alleviate the impact of crime or tragedy
on its victims. At the time of the incident, we provide
a listening ear, comfort and reassurance at the victim's home,
in the hospital, at the RCMP Detachment or by phone.
In cases where a court appearance is necessary, we
contact the witness / victim to offer information
on court procedures and upcoming court dates. We are
available to accompany the victim to court.
Information
When victims want information about their case, we
liaise with those handling the file to provide information
about RCMP procedures, the criminal justice process
and the court system as well as other important questions
or matters such as:
- Has an arrest been made?
- When is my court date?
- How do I file a victim impact statement?
- How do I apply for restitution?
- Who is the RCMP officer in charge of my case?
We also provide resource information appropriate
for ones needs, such as information on crime prevention
and financial benefits.

with formal and informal community supports. We provide
a referral service that connects victims with other
